Blog Post #5- Camera Angle Research

 Camera Angle Research

To prepare for making my initial storyboard I wanted to look at different types of camera angles in thriller movies. I began researching for a video about different angles, when I found this one.

I enjoyed the film they made for the video because it reminds me of the idea I wanted to have for my film. In the video they brought up a very good detail about how slow camera movement can create suspense. The guy in the video said that suspense keeps the viewers on their toes and ready to be scared. He then brought up negative space. In the film they made they utilized rule of thirds and had their main character on one intersection and had negative space on the other intersection. On the intersection there was a wall were you seen this shadow run across. The negative spaced allowed for you mind to fill in what's happening. He stated that in most horror/thriller films the person will be curious and want to check out anything mysterious that is happening. In their film they did a shot from behind a tree looking into the window that the main character is looking out of. They did this shot to look like a point-of-view shot of the stalker hiding behind a tree stalking the main character. The guy in the video brought up the point of using shadows to create mystery.

I liked all the different topics he brought up. In my film I think it would be a good idea to utilize to slow camera movements on scenes that I want to create suspense. Like when she is home alone and hears a noise. In my film I will use rule of thirds but I don't have an idea for negative space in my film. I want to follow the stereotype in most horror/thriller movies about how the main characters is curious and wants to go invest age what happened. For this I want y main character, Lacy, to hear a noise outside and go check it out and then have a shot of the stalker, Steve, hiding behind a tree looking at her as a point-of-view shot. I got the idea for the point-of-view shot from the video. I want to utilize shadows to create mystery because I don't want the audience to know that Steve is actually the stalker yet in the opening scene so it can flow into the start of the movie and at the end you'll find out.
(point-of-view shot example but looking at lacy in her house instead)
