Blog Post #43- CCR Question #1
CCR Question #1
I filmed this question as an interview and here is my script I want off of:Hello and welcome back to big screen talk. I am your host and on today's show we will have a special guest. She is a new director and just Released the opening scene to the brand-new movie “The Lurker.” Her name is Abigail downey. Oh, and here she is now!
Hello! I am so excited to be on your podcast!
We are so glad to have you! All right so give us a breakdown of your opening scene you have just made.
I do not want to give out much detail, but it is a movie about a stalker, and it is in a high school setting.
Omg that is intriguing I am so excited to watch your movie! When does it come out?
March 11th.
Ooo I am going to set my calendar! Now what conventions did you use in your film?
Some conventions that I wanted to follow were suspense, Intensity and danger from thriller movies. Conventions from romance movies that I tried to input were memorable first encounters and sweet moments between them. Then lastly from coming-of-age movies, conventions that I have used were having a young protagonist, having them face the challenges of growing up, and the theme of first love. All the conventions that I have listed here I have tried to use in my film, and they have all followed the norm of each genre confirming to what normal conventions in these movies' genres are.
oh wow those are some awesome conventions. You said that your film used conventions, correct? And that your film does not challenge them.
Yes ma’am this is correct.
Awesome, how does your product represent social groups though?
Well In my film I had a few stereotypes. My main character Lacy followed the stereotype of a shy quiet and smart schoolgirl and Steve followed the stereotype of a classic jock. Steve was the stalker in my film, but I left that to not be shown so when that side of him comes out he counter stereotypes what a traditional stalker in most films would look like.
OH wow that is very interesting! Now how did you show all of this through your film, technologically?
Well lets start with sound. In my film I had used a voiceover to tell my story. That means the sound was non diegetic throughout the whole film besides the one part where I had Steve say his one and only line. This sound is one thing that did show the conventions and stereotypes because they could have been inferred from what the voiceover had said.
Wow that’s very cool what’s one of the technical ways conventions and stereotypes were shown through your film?
Another way was film techniques. Own scarier scenes I try to make the filming go slower and I tried to follow all of the different conventions by showing the places where I thought it would make most sense being at for the scene and changing the shot angle accordingly. I guess this could also go into mise-en-scene because of me deciding where to place my scene and to add I also had dressed my actors accordingly and had their makeup do not in only a few scenes to emphasize things. And then for lighting I only used natural lighting because I feel as if it makes the film more realistic.
Wow that is very cool! All right people that are all we have time for today, give it up for Miss abigail downey.
