To begin researching for my opening scene I started off by looking for movies about stalkers and watching their opening scene. I also read a summary of the movie so I could get a gist about the movie. The first movie that I found was "Crush".
The opening scene begins with an establishing shot of a busy neighborhood street, and you hear the diegetic synchronous sound of cyclists pedaling. There is a non-diegetic asynchronous sound of background noise that was added in and a diegetic synchronous sound of the trees blowing in the wind. It pans to two kids sitting on a roof. It cuts again to a rule of thirds intersection, two shot of the characters then it cuts again to a close-up of each character's facial details. The two characters begin having a conversation and the sound is diegetic and synchronous. The background sound of what seems to be piano dings is still going. While the two characters are talking there are shot reverse edits in there of them talking. Each character says, "Penny for your thoughts?" and there is a close-up of the character receiving the penny holding out their hand and the other kid putting the penny in the other kid's hand. The girl gets jealous and pushes the kid off the roof they were sitting on. There is almost a Dutch angle and an ariel view. It cuts to a close-up of the girl looking sad then to the kid dangling off the roof screaming for help (diegetic and synchronous sound). The camera does a more dominant Dutch angle while zooming in on the kid. It then tilts up on the girl sitting on the roof. A close-up of the kid's grips on the roof falling off is shown then a long shot of the kid falling off the roof. There is an eerie noise as a close-up of the girl is shown then it cuts to the title of the movie.
My opening scene will be less graphic and have no deaths in it. I did like how they did an establishing shot of where they are so that may be something I add to the final cut of my opening scene depending on how the shot turns out. I also liked how they had an asynchronous sound effect in the back that was not taking up the whole sound and you could still hear what they were saying. Depending on what I decide to do with my opening scene an eerie canted angle like they used in the clip above could be a good shot. The use of her sitting ominously on a roof not talking with a blank stare is also a good idea almost as if she doesn't regret her choices. I could use that for a close-up somewhere of Steve, my stalker, looking at Lacy. If I make Steve and Lacy have a conversation before, he stalks her I could add a shot reverse edit in there for the conversation.
