Blog Post #3- Genre Research
Genre Research
For my movie about the stalker, I want to do a thriller movie with genre hybridity with romance, and suspense. In my opening scene, I want Steve and Lacy to have a little bit of romance, but Steve becomes possessive and obsessive over Lacy and she doesn't like that and calls it off with him. Steve gets mad and begins stalking her. This begins the main idea of my story.
To see what I need to have my thriller movie I looked up the genre. Based on the website masterclass.com it says I need to have "1. A Clear Threat, 2. High Stakes, 3. Twists, 4. Dynamic Character, 5. Memorable Locations and 6. Action." In my opening scene, I will hit the first point clearly with Steve being the threat and the memorable location being Lacy's house. I won't be able to have twists because of the 2-minute time limit. I will try to keep high stakes and action to keep watchers entertained during the 2 minutes. In my opening scene, I won't be able to hit dynamic characters because I will not be able to have character development in the time frame.
To have genre hybridity of romance Steve and Lacy will fall in love but then it becomes very toxic, and Lacy doesn't want to be with Steve anymore. I will also have genre hybridity in suspense and that will be shown in my opening scene through eerie music and slow paces at some parts.
