Blog Post #27- Why I made the prop
Why I made the Prop
A normal bear trap can depict acts of violence. In my film it is used to capture something but it again is a prop. My prop could not hurt someone like a normal bear trap even if it tried to. It is made out out of cardboard and aluminum tape and those two could not hurt someone by clamping down on the leg.
I chose to use a bear trap because it was one of the first things that came to my mind when thinking of a trap. I was originally going to just did a hole because I did not want to make a prop and it was the easy way out. I could have done jump cuts and got a longer more interesting and technical shot. My father did say not to me digging a hole in his yard though.
Eventually I decided to just make a bear trap because I could not think of any other things because of the stump I faced. It took a little bit of time to make but in the end it turned out well even tough it is not functional. I will have to figure out a way to make stepping in the trap look realistic. It will take trial and error but I will figure out a way to do it.
I was researching about bear traps and I looked up on how to make it. I came across “The Prop Master” on youtube and because of his name I trusted him. His tutorial was actually very hard to follow and I struggled a lot and my mom had to help and out a lot and I took a bunch of brain breaks. When making sure my prop turned out well I would research what an actual bear trap is and make sure it looked the same.
