 Prop Making- Bear trap

To make my bear trap I watched this video.

I went out on Monday and got most of the supplies I would need to make it. I had most of the supplies at home so getting the supplies was not a big issue. At first I tried to make the trap aluminum tape without realizing I had it at home. My sister and I looked at the stores section but didn’t understand which was aluminum tape so we didn’t buy any. I then was telling my dad about it and he said we had some at home. I then rewatched the video and put the aluminum tape on everything and It looked more like a bear trap. I did have that issue throughout making the trap. It didn’t look realistic and looked disproportionate. To fix these problems the aluminum tape helped to make it look more realistic and thick and after spray painting it back it looked real in the end. When fixing making it look more proportionate I cut one of the “teeth” off of it and I think it helped a lot to make it proportionate.

On Tuesday while sitting at my tennis match I began making the prop while following the instructions from the video. I did not finish at the tennis match so I ended up needing to finish it over the weekend. On Tuesday I only ended up being able to cut out all of the pieces I would need. I did end up  having some help from some girls on the team to cut out the pieces.

Over the weekend I needed to put the whole thing together and spray paint it. I started by just putting it together without the aluminum tape. Like I stated before it didn’t look right and I needed to fix it, I added the aluminum tape and then put it all together but something just wasn’t right. I cut the teeth on the trap and I think it helped so then I did the first layer of spray paint. The next day I did the second layer and that was all it needed to look good. This is the finished trap after the second layer of spray paint drying.
