Blog Post #29- Editing Software
Editing Software
I wanted to start editing for my film because I need to get it done but I do not know what software to use. I need a free editor because I do not have money to spend on an editor. I also need one that is beginner friendly because this is all new to me. In media studies when we did little projects where we needed to edit I would use VN editor to edit.
To begin researching what editing software to use I went on this website to see which ones would fit my criteria. I mainly looked at the pros and cons of each software and narrowed it down to 3 that I liked. Lightworks, iMovie, and Shotcut. I like Lightworks because I can upload the video straight to YouTube where I will be submitting my opening scene and it seems like it would be very beginner friendly. iMovie I have originally been using, it is nice but it hard for me to figure out and I don't like how I can't put the video where I want it and I have to place it in chronological order. I like Shotcut because I think it would be nice to piece together my voice over in. I also want to add in VN Editor because I am comfortable with it because I have used it before.
Lightworks was a nice editing app but I feel like it moves slow for my liking. I also couldn't figure out how to add in my voice over that I had already had done on voice memos. iMovie is something that I have used before, I have my voice over already in it and it would be a good safe option besides the fact I can only place my clips in chronological order. To get over that I could do mini edits and them piece it all together. Shotcut did not work. I tried to download the add and it timed out each time I tried to download so there is no information I can gather from this. Last is VN Editor, I liked VN Editor because it was easy to piece together that audio and the clips together and I am familiar with it so it makes it much easier.
To edit my Final Project I am going to mainly use VN Editor. I may use a little iMovie here and there but I feel as if VN Editor will help me out a lot in the long run. I am going to have to do it shot by shot but I think piecing it together should be an easy thing to do in the end.
