Blog Post #37- Filming #9
Filming #9
In this shot my main character Lacy is watching a eerie television show when she gets the phone call from an unknown caller. I wanted this scene to be one of the turning points that leads her to set up the trap. I filmed this at night to add to the feeling. The only lighting I used was the glow from the television so that you know it is dark in the rest of her house. Eventually I did need lights on so I had her get up and turn the lights on so you would know that she turned them on and they didn’t magically turn on.
I filmed this scene as a mid shot at the beginning and then a dolly in to a close up so that way you could see the body language with the facial expressions being very visible. One thing I noticed when I filmed in the dark was that the quality of the videos were very poor and they did not turn out as well as the ones filmed int the light, quality wise. Rule of thirds was a big thing I followed through the film. It was one of the main things I focused on in this specific shot. I turned on the gird and kept my main focal point on there the whole time. Weather it was the tv, the phone, or Lacy.
In this next shot it was a shot of Lacy walking from the front door to the garage to get her bear trap. This doesn’t makes sense sometimes because of the shots where you can see the bear trap in the back of the living room shots. That is one of the mistakes I made when filming. I filmed a series of these shots because I wanted them to be like jump cuts but I was tracking them. I didn’t want it to be one continuous long walk from her getting the trap to walking outside and setting it up. I added no lights to this shot because there was nothing really that I need to light up. Rule of thirds was I big thing I followed again. This time it was more important, I had to follow it through all of the jump cuts because I wanted only the scenery to jump not my main character.
